2 months

AHHH 2 months! i feel like the first month went by so quickly, and this past month really dragged. it's been a looooong month since he's been pretty constipated and gassy (which affects his sleep because he can't go down from being so uncomfortable - meaning it affects OUR sleep!) he usually goes down for about 2 hours after i put him down at night, but lately he's been waking up every hour to 90 minutes which is pretty unmanageable and forces me to get help from carlo/mom which takes away from their sleep as well. we've all been tired and it's also been so sad hearing his agonizing painful cries :( he also got his 2 month checkup, and he's about 24 inches long which puts him at about 70th percentile height - 11 lb 11 oz which puts him at 36th percentile weight. so happy he's in the taller range b/c i was a bit nervous he'd be short as he was so small when he came out! his milestones/developments started cooing near the end of the 2m mark long eyelas

6 weeks

jackson: still waking up every 2 hours on his own. when will this stretch out?? he has about two times in the day where he's up for like 2 hours, thankfully his schedule is pretty consistent and predictable. we didn't have a schedule with mya but that's because we always let her sleep for the whole day. i'm still getting the broken sleep but again, my body is used to it. he already rolled over TWICE today and he rolled over a few times over the weekend. carlo was thinking it was a fluke but i think he has those muscles and that coordination down now. we're gonna have a runner on our hands soon enough! on my last update i said he'd roll over at about the 2 month mark but looks like he's hit that already. now we'll see when he can roll from stomach to back! physically he can also stand for longer when i pick him up - on Friday i swear he only stood for like 5-10 secs at a time, but just today (3 days later) he stood for a good 10-20 seconds. mentally he

postpartum update: weeks 3-4

jackson is already able to be up for longer! usually he's been eating and sleeping right away, but lately he's been up more times of the day for about an hour or two at a time. he's also been really consistent with waking up every 2 hours on his own, and i think my body has adapted to this new schedule because i happen to get up every 60-90 minutes or so in the middle of the night, probably anticipating his feeds. at least i'm able to knock out pretty quickly between each feeding so i still get a break, and i try to get 1-2 naps per day.. his neck muscles are much stronger than Mya's! he moves his head ALOT when we're trying to burp him and i don't think we really even need to give him active tummy time because he moves so damn much. we think he's going to start rolling probably at about 2-3 months (that's usually a 4 month milestone) because he already likes moving. carlo said to me, "he's going to not be a baby much faster than mya"

postpartum AND mya update: week 2

went to Jackson's 2 week appointment and he gained FIFTEEN oz and is now 7 lbs 4 oz. weight gain was definitely significant - he jumped from 10th to 20th percentile now.. still small but hopefully at least his rate of growth continues to trend this way. i can tell his cheeks and legs have rounded out. i've been very religious about not letting him sleep over 3 hours because we want to make sure he gets all of his calories and grows a lot since he was a tinky winky at birth (borderline premie) at 2 weeks postpartum.. i'm currently getting about 4-5 hours of sleep a night since i wake up every 2 hours or so to feed him. naps are kinda variable but generally i'm only able to nap about 30-45 minutes >_>.. thankfully i'm the kind of person that operates fine on little sleep but still wish i could sleep more of course.. spoke too soon about muh boobs. my nipples weren't that sore the first week but i think he's eating more now so they're a bit sore nowad

postpartum update: week 1

damn! i can't believe it's already been a week since i gave birth! we went to Jackson's 1 week appointment yesterday, so far, so good. he gained about 3 oz, which is awesome because newborns usually lose weight within the first 2 weeks (b/c they don't have an umbilical cord constantly feeding them food anymore!) - good for me too, b/c it means my milk supply isn't an issue! i remember mya gained weight pretty well when she was born too. my recovery is much easier than last time. the doc had to cut me a little bit last time. no cutting required this time and the doc said i just had a very minor 4 mm tear that didn't require stitches, so at least my DOWN THERE area is feeling WAY better than the first time. i think i even feel about normal at this point.. last time i remember i would be super sore and stingy for the first few weeks every time i sat down and got back up. last time i remember i had trouble walking up stairs and walking was kind of cumbersome. guess

welcome baby Jackson! 10/14/21

oh man! i still can't believe i brought in another tiny human into the world. his entrance into the world was fast and furious. started getting contractions around 8:00 PM left the house at 9:50 PM got to the hospital at 10:00 PM delivered the baby at 10:46 PM he came at 38 weeks and 6 days exactly (i was expecting around 39 weeks, just like with mya). i had a checkup scheduled for that morning and i used the toilet before i left the house. when i had wiped, i noticed some blood on the tissue, which meant my mucus plug was coming out. it sounds grosser than it is but essentially it's tissue that plugs up your cervix to protect anything from going up to the baby and when it comes out it pretty much just looks like slightly bloody discharge. (let's normalize talking about  bodily functions, y'all!) it can start coming out as early as 2 weeks before delivery, but for me with mya, it literally came out one hour before i started having contractions, so i thought the baby was

Mya is now officially a big sister!! =) her first meeting with Jackson:we came back with him overnight so she met him in the morning after she woke up. i woke her up as usual and askedif she wanted to see the baby. she shyly yes and followed me in the roomm but got really shy and held my hand and didn't want to leave my side at ALL. even though Jackson was so tiny, i was surprised she was scared to go closer. well, maybe it was hard to see because he was all the way in the MIDDLE of our bed and she didn't want to delve into the unknown. IDK! it was really hard to read her and i still don't quite know how to interpret what she felt. she looked both shy and scared - she is always shy with new people though but i thought maybe it would be slightly different with a tiny human. we asked if she wanted to go closer and it was a nope. she saw him throughout the day, she of course saw him 'cause we had to hold him and feed him. i don't think she was jealous but she would mos

Still new milestones every month!! I think the coolest thing this month is that... I can actually have full-on conversations with her now. It's wild. Obviously her vocab is limited but we can literally have a back and forth conversation now! Some things this month: finally got her a bed and transitioned out of the pack n play lol. it was suprisingly a very easy transition. nothing different except she just woke up crying the first night, prob cuz she was disoriented. uncles visited! haven't seen them in like.. 2 years when we last visited SF? crazy that's it's been that long. that's most of her life. so cute how she says her l's like a kid.. like w's! "peanut butter and jewwy" got her an ikea dinosaur toy that she loves next to her in the car. she loves going RAWR big dinosaur. wonder when she'll get over dinosaurs! carlo always goes to free book drops and picks up new books. mya loves them! likes to fake-cry.. think she knows it gets her atten

30 month update! she's OFFICIALLY 2 and a half!

update on sleep regression: thankfully, she returned back to normal after my post last week, PHEW. not only with her sleep, but her general behavior. everything must have tied back together. finally no crying when leaving the house for daycare, and then going back to sleep around the 8:30 timeframe again. i had another weekend with just her and i again (since carlo has his annual training hell weeks, which means he has to work over the weekend) - and honestly, as she gets older, it gets so much easier and more fun. it would be even EASIER if i wasn't pregnant and it wasn't as much trouble to sit on the floor to play with her (doesn't feel great for my back or legs). it was seriously SO fun to be with her all weekend and doing literally everything together. she loves me so much and i love her right back tenfold. being able to comfort her when she wakes up in the middle of the night (sometimes). reading to her before she sleeps and being able to hold her and being so clo

update on 2.5y/o sleep regression last week

OH MAN! last week was a doozy! yesterday was the first day that she went to sleep before 9 (put her to bed at 8:15, which is in the range of what we usually do, which is 8-8:30) hopefully we're back on track. after thinking about it more, we think it was a mixture of 2 things: just a regular sleep regression (due to her age and wanting to test boundaries) and us letting her sleep in late, and hence staying up later, from when she was sick the previous week. lately, we had been letting her sleep in as long as she wanted, which was usually about 7:30 AM (she usually gets up like 6:45) and hence that pushing out her sleeptime for about an hour.. plus she has just been learning SOOOO much CONSTANTLY, we can't even keep track. she surprises us with something new literally every day. it was also a matter of her just testing her boundaries, I think. like, knowing that she doesn't necessarily have to be on our schedule and wanting to stay up and play with us as much as she possibl

30 month (2.5 y/o) sleep regression!

PHEW! OMG we had the HARDEST night on Saturday. When things are smooth and easy, you forget how much of a privilege and gift that really is, lol.. you can skip near the end to read about the actual Saturday and what happened :/ anyhow.. there's been a few things that have been going on. Mya caught a slight sickness on Tuesday night (just a very mild fever for 2 days), so we kept her home from Tues-Fri. we actually did drop her off to daycare on Friday, but got a call an hour later from the school that she wasn't acting like herself (was on the floor and not in the mood to do anything) - but they did confirm she wasn't showing any sick symptoms, but did know that she was out sick the last 2 days. i think she was JUST warming up to class when I just got there - she wasn't in the group activity with the other kids, but standing by herself and kinda smiling looking at something. of course, she did see me and ran to me right away - and at that point, i was just like.. eh, i

Pregnancy #2: 1st & 2nd trimesters

I realized that I never actually started blogging about my second pregnancy now and I'm at week 26 (which means I'm already nearing my 3rd trimester..!) Almost 2/3rds of the way through and no news - lol - but honestly, my pregnancy hasn't affected my day-to-day too much and sometimes I even forget I'm pregnant! Mindset-wise, we already know what to expect when having a baby, so I think that's why both me and Carlo don't really think about it. There's no buzzing anticipation or constant research of baby products, baby, or pregnancy because this is our 2nd rodeo and we pretty much have everything we need, except maybe some NB/sz1 diapers. I think when we have 1 or 2 months left is when we'll actually start clearing space for our 'nursery' - which is going to be our huge walk in closet in our master bedroom - and when we'll start re-washing some of the stuff we'll need to use like baby clothes, bedding and some my breastfeeding stuff.  Our

2y5m (June recap)

went to the aquarium 2x. she seems to have a different favorite animal each time though i feel like a consistent one is the turtles SO happy when she wakes up! loves lying down and looking at us and squealing. she usually does this for 5-10 minutes and we're just playing with her while she's still in the bed lying down but also being playful with us. she could probably be in there for up to 20 minutes if we don't coax her to come out  ANOTHER sore throat. she was sick for like a full month last time and her prolonged cough lingered for prob 2-3 weeks after that. i think she was OK for maybe 3 days until she got yet another sore throat (as did i!!!) and it's another prolonged one for about 2 weeks. yikes! i she seems to LOVE wearing dresses. maybe because she can look down at it and it's flowy. we usually like gender-neutral and plainer clothes (to be more practical) but she seems to really like clothes with animals or characters on them, so we're thinking about

mid-may to mid-june baby tingz 2y4m

mya's been doing random stuff and whenever she's doing something, she asks, "WHAT IS MYA DOINGGGG?" like she'll be rolling on the floor, and say, "WHAT IS MYA DOING???" I think she wants us to describe what she's doing or what someone is doing so she can put the words to the action.. so cute monkey see, monkey do! there was one instance where i just ran to a wall and splat myself against it and she just followed me! i did this for a good few minutes and she was just following me doing the same thing. UGHHH she likes riding on me like a horse when i'm stretching loves going into the closet in her room to dig up her old baby toys and books.. of course we stored them away because we thought she was too old for them, but she still seems to enjoy them. i noticed she does like the same books but she'll interact with them a bit differently or she can actually recite some of the phrases and words back. old renewed favs: ten little toes, and a box set

5/25 Mya sicky sick all week =(

Mya got a fever on Friday night and her fever lasted a full 5 days. We were pretty worried since a visit to the hospital is recommended if their fever doesn't break by 5 days, but thankfully she did! It was the worst sickness she's probably ever had.. especially because it was coupled with a pretty bad sore throat/cough. We actually also ALL caught the sore throat from her and it's the worst sore throat I've ever had, so she must have been really miserable. I remember she just looked at me and said "I hurt.. my neck hurt.." =( about 9 days later, she still has her cough but thankfully is able to go back to daycare after not having been to school for over a week. Thankfully Carlo happened to have the week off since his parents are here anyway, and my work wasn't  too busy. Just sucks because the parents can't really play with Mya during this time (because she's so grumpy and only wants us or nothing at all) She's usually still pretty high-spirit

5/14/21 Second month in Maryland

Guess I'm keeping up with monthly updates, not just for Mya but for our lyfe! Still loves playing and drawing on the cardboard box (how many months has it been?), and still loves her Pokemon books (been like 3 months now) Her memorization of past events and pronunciation of words has progressively gotten better and better can repeat most Pokemon names pretty easily and fluently loves jibber-jabbering to Carlo about what she did at school on the car ride home.. unfortunately I'm not around for these! another example of her having good memory was that, the day before, I showed her a unicorn doll and asked, "Who gave this to you? Yi yi gave this to you." The next day I was sitting next to her unicorn and she came by and said, "Who gave you? Yi yi." SO CUTE Met Yi Yi (my little sister, so, Mya's maternal aunt) for the first time. She took only a day or two to warm up to her!! IDK if it's just her age now that she's a bit older or b/c my sis is so sil

1 month in Maryland! 4/13/2021

Wow! It's already been a full month since we've been here. Weekends are definitely less eventful here because I think anything "BIG" or cool is at least a 45m drive away.. and with a toddler, I'd rather not waste 90m of a round trip drive just sitting still in the car. My mom's been visiting pretty much the whole time we've been here so far, so she's been pretty occupied and having tons of fun playing with my mom lol b/c it's pretty much like playing with another baby. We haven't done much cuz one weekend we wanted my mom to rest, Mya was sick during another weekend, and then Carlo had to work on another.. I think there might have only been one weekend that we did anything and it was just a trip to the playground and the store or something. But honestly, that's all you can really do around here lol.. drive to the store or a playground. Who knows, we might try to actually do something soon! We're about an hour from DC, and an hour from P

Daycare transition!

Mya started her new daycare last week and she was a trooper!! I always expect the worst, but hope for the best. She is EXTREMELY shy, so for the first day, I envisioned that she'd be crying for at least 30 minutes after we left and standing alone in the corner for most of the day, but thankfully, they sent a message an hour after we dropped her off and she was already playing with a puzzle.. which at least meant she was distracted and happy enough to play with a toy, although, I could tell her eyes were a bit swollen from crying T_T When we picked her up after the first day, she was happy and super talkative! We tried asking her about her first day, and we at least knew her teacher's name so we tried to repeat that to her and she happily repeated back so that was a good sign :) I asked the staff to send me a list of the kids' names so I could try to practice that with her, because she was saying some kids' names already but I couldn't quite make out what they

3/12 NY > MD

We moved from NY to MD! And along with that, we also went 10 days with the bare MINIMUM in terms of furniture while we waited for the transport company to move our stuff. So, that meant I slept on an air mattress and Carlo slept on a mat on the floor. Mya still had her bed but pretty much no toys. It was still supposed to be relatively easy because we assumed we'd still have daycare.. but lo and behold, a kid HAPPENED to get COVID on that last week when we had nothing and so we had to stay at home with her that last week with 0 entertainment available. No toys, no TV. We kept some markers and books and thankfully she was really into that. That also meant more trips to the playground! It was a 3 hour drive to Maryland and overall she was good! Of course she had screentime for a majority of the time, but she didn't get too restless or grumpy from not being able to move. She did puke for the first time ever for whatever reason and we didn't get to pull over for a good 10m to f

i love you too!

yesterday, i told mya, "I love you!" and she replied, "I love you too!" then she said, HUG!" later that day carlo told her she loved her, and she said, "I love you first!" I think she hears us saying "I love you most" and she was mirroring the same thing :3

2y update

can't believe she's already 2! it's already been a year since she's seen family since that was the last time both our sets of parents visited :/ she loves videochatting with family she did get sick this past month and i think it's only been the 2nd time she's been sick since COVID happened. both times she didn't really get a fever or severe symptoms, just a prolonged runny nose (for 7-14 days). her separation anxiety peaked, especially that week that she was sick and at home. she was clingier (to me specifically), and there was also a few nights where she wailed after we put her down for bed (b/c of the separation anxiety) - but as we looked back, we think it was because she was going through a mental leap again. she is talking a lot more and seems to know more and more every day. she can sing more songs and remember things a lot more. we had a good time celebrating her birthday on an outing to brooklyn as well as manhattan. we got a nice extra day on her

23 mo update

had a 2 week phase of telling mommy to lie down and putting the blanket over me loves running in and out of the box still (finally had to retire it b/c it was losing its structure) loves drawing on the box with markers and making doodles while i'm coloring noodles & rice is still her favorite. made her japchae for the first time and she loves that too, ate it for 3 days straight LOVES roast chicken!! dr suess books are her current favorite just learned to open doors :/ lol dangerous but cool to see a new skill unlocked. can also close them now. can walk backwards fav TV show is pocoyo and asks for it specifically not as startled of loud noises outside (esp trains, firetrucks). walks all the way to school while holding our hands every morning (about a 7m walk) actually likes brushing her teeth nowadays and does it herself! can identify shapes! circle, oval, square, triangle, star, heart, diamond knows numbers and just starting to know the concept of counting. knows up to 13 love
