Wow! It's already been a full month since we've been here.
Weekends are definitely less eventful here because I think anything "BIG" or cool is at least a 45m drive away.. and with a toddler, I'd rather not waste 90m of a round trip drive just sitting still in the car. My mom's been visiting pretty much the whole time we've been here so far, so she's been pretty occupied and having tons of fun playing with my mom lol b/c it's pretty much like playing with another baby. We haven't done much cuz one weekend we wanted my mom to rest, Mya was sick during another weekend, and then Carlo had to work on another.. I think there might have only been one weekend that we did anything and it was just a trip to the playground and the store or something. But honestly, that's all you can really do around here lol.. drive to the store or a playground. Who knows, we might try to actually do something soon!
We're about an hour from DC, and an hour from Philly, so we have some options, though those are 2 fairly long drives with a kid. We have a lot of time to explore though! The closest legit Asian restaurants are 45m from here, and they're all in plazas, which means that if we go eat, that's literally all we do and Mya's probably gonna be restless and bored most of the time. So, we're pretty excited to head to Philly soon because they have a Chinatown there.. it's probably going to be underwhelming compared to NY and SF but better than nothing!! It's almost farmer's market season around here so I'm excited for that! Love my farmer's markets!!
My sister is coming to visit at the end of the month so I was doing some light research on what to do while she's here. We honestly haven't explored at ALL since we've moved here so also excited to hang out with her and walk around to see what's up around 'chere.
In terms of personally! Not much has changed with me. I already work from home full time, so it's about the same. Since Mya started daycare again, I finally got to start doing my light morning workouts and stretching again - after not being able to do that for like 3-4 weeks because of the move. Man, my back was in terrible condition then but definitely a lot better now after being able to get movement in again. I'm getting old!
Mya's of course, thriving at daycare! She's just going through a big mental and physical development in general and I think it just happens to coincide with the daycare transition. When we got here, she still needed assistance going up the stairs, but now she can just go up on her own! And just in general you can just tell she's getting more intelligent because she can recall and express things that happened earlier in the day or a few days ago. Right now, her favorite things are:
- Playing with easter eggs from an easter egg hunt hosted by the daycare (loves playing with them in the bath and looking to see what mini things my mom put in there)
- Started loving all her dolls! She never interacted with them before but she likes bringing them everywhere or putting them to sleep
- Loves miniature figures
- Still loves playing and drawing on the cardboard box
- Loves specifically putting toys in a slot on top of the cardboard box and climbing in and out of the box to retrieve them
- Does really well on walks around the apartment complex (too bad there's no squirrels for her to look at anymore!!)
- Still likes telling us to go to sleep sometimes and laying a blanket over us
- Able to put stackable cups in order
- LOVES her Pokemon books (something about all the animals and maybe looking for them.. or the colors)
- Able to put toys in straight lines
- Still loves reading! We haven't gotten any new books but she still loves her Dr Suess books and also is able to recite certain lines from the books
- Randomly belts out lines from songs.. like "LET IT GOOO" or "MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB" lol
- Sometimes during mealtime, commands us specially to "EAT."
- Tells my mom to "GO OTHER ROOM!!!" when she's mad and wants her own space lol
- Few times when she was mad would say "I WANNA RUN AWAY" and then runs away while saying it T__T .. so cute and sad lol. She definitely takes from me in terms of how she deals with anger! We just need our space.'
- Overall still very sweet and still loves giving us hugs and kisses
In terms of food, she really has been a good eater and not picky. We've been trying some new things and haven't stuck to anything habitual.. she ate wontons for the first time (homemade by my mom) and even ate a little apple I gave her! Like, holding a full small Gala apple and eating around the core - lol. Still loves her rice, sausages, eggs, fruit.. She did try a popsicle for the first time b/c I bought a popsicle mold for myself and I was just like.. let's see how this goes. She actually did pretty well with it but it was messy because it dripped from holding it sideways. But what can ya do.
Lately she's been asking for less TV and just interested in playing with her toys, which is nice. When she does watch TV she still loves her Pocoyo!
For daycare, after like 3 full weeks of being there, she finally for the first time voluntarily walked out on her own in the morning, knowing that she was going to daycare, and said "Bye Mommy!!" so cute. No longer a fight to get her in the car and doesn't even need or ask for me (she would constantly ask, Where's Mommy!??!" when Carlo drives her to daycare before he goes for work). And, on most days when she comes back, she always runs into her arms but there are a few occasional days when she doesn't have naps that she's super grumpy.. but that's normal!
